Job Description
General Responsibilities:
The Pittsburgh office is hiring a Group Manager for our Asbestos/Industrial Hygiene team. The manger will supervise or monitor projects in progress for the team to ensure that work is executed on time and in budget based on the approved scope of work and within company policies, procedures and standards. They will also supervise the preparation of proposals and cost estimates to clients to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of staff and pricing to achieve desired profitability. Other responsibilities include assisting the department manager with management of the daily operations of the environmental department, such as staff training, development, and performance review, utilization of equipment and facilities, safety oversight, quality of services, and adherence to policies and procedure. Further, the group manager will support business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for preparation of proposals and cost estimate for Asbestos, Mold, Lead, and Industrial Hygiene Surveys, Indoor Air Quality Investigations, Asbestos, Mold, Lead, and Industrial Hygiene Project Oversite, Phase Contrast Microscope Sample Analysis, and Occupational Health Exposure Assessments.
  • Assist with or lead business and client development activities for the office and team.
  • Assist the Department/Office Manager with developing employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection and on-boarding.
  • With support from the Department/Office Manager prepare and execute annual business plan for the team.
  • Assist with oversight and management of key metrics related to revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
  • Be aware of project-related risk and implement company risk policies.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices. Engage APRs on projects at their onset.
  • Lead or conduct tasks related to project monitoring, Asbestos/Lead surveys, IAQ/mold assessments, and/or other project assignments as appropriate.
  • Manage or perform air monitoring duties for asbestos abatement activities - from inspection to abatement oversight and monitoring.
  • Manage staff analyzing laboratory and engineering data.
  • Manage, prepare and review Asbestos Survey and clearance reports, IAQ/Mold assessments, and/or other technical assessment reports.
  • Maintain consistent communication of project progress with the assigned project manager from start to finish of the project.
  • Make employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate safety policies.
  • Prepare Health and Safety Plans/Job Safety Analyses for sites.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Improve customer service, perception, and satisfaction.
  • Ability to work in and lead a team and communicate effectively with other teams and management.
  • Business awareness: specific knowledge of the customer and how Terracon can bring value to the marketplace.
  • Physical ability to carry equipment up to 35 pounds, climb ladders, get in and out of basement and attic crawl spaces, etc.
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of instruments including testing instruments, sampling pumps, calibrators, microscopes, etc.
  • Periodic out-of-area travel for projects including some extended stays.
  • Ability to work at State and Governmental facilities.
  • Ability to wear a respirator.

  • Ability to study and pass various certification programs.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent time management skills, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize work.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Typing skills to ensure quick and accurate entry of Technical Reports.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability/willingness for frequent regional travel for fieldwork.
  • Ability to pass a background check for Federal and School Facilities.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology and 5 years' practice experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 9 years' related experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience directly managing teams.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Certification:
  • Certification or licensure in field of expertise.
  • Certification as AHERA Building Inspector, NIOSH 582, Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor
