Job Description

Local around the globe, we excel at executing remote and challenging surveys. We have successfully completed thousands of surveys in over 28 countries around the world for over 330 clients. These range from inland surveys to deep ocean seabed exploration and mapping projects.


TerraSond is looking to add an experienced Technical Authority, Operations to the team. The Technical Authority is primarily responsible for establishing, monitoring, and maintaining a high standard of reporting and procedures as defined by company quality systems and client requirements. The position will continually monitor and improve the company's survey capability, in the areas of QA/QC, training, technical review and working procedures as well as provide technical support to offshore and onshore teams as required. They will manage the offshore party chiefs and inputs for staffing of offshore projects. The position will be heavily involved in project planning, mobilization and execution to survey standards.


The successful candidate would be based in the Houston area, but a flexible location may be considered for the right candidate.


Duties

  • Establishment, monitoring and maintenance of professional hydrographic and geophysical survey and reporting standards
  • Provide technical survey support to project teams and field staff
  • Provide regular information/updates to field staff on survey issues
  • Ensuring suitability of survey and positioning procedures and methods used on projects
  • Liaise with clients on company execution of projects and performance feedback
  • Assist in preparation of bid proposals on a technical basis within the group
  • Advise on new developments regarding survey systems and methods
  • Administrate and manage specific project tasks assigned by the VP of Operations
  • Continually review and lead company's direction in respect of software and hardware standardization
  • Input to R&D projects as required
  • Support business development and commercial function with preparation of key tenders
  • Active promotion of company services working with business development and commercial functions to identify technical advantages and develop winning tenders
  • Identify novel tools and techniques in order to improve quality and or efficiency of services
  • Act as member of the sales organization, maintaining client contacts and developing business opportunities through personnel networks


Required

  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. level qualification in relevant survey related discipline, preferred
  • Extensive experience in the industry
  • 2 years' experience as Party Chief (technical charge) or a data processing team lead, highly preferred
  • Conversant with equipment/software in use (e.g. Qimera, Sonarwiz, Oasis Montaj, Hypack, Qinsy, Global Mapper, etc.)
  • Knowledge and understanding of current offshore survey techniques related to pre-engineering survey, pre-lay survey, construction support, BOEM SAP/GAP/COP surveys, pre/post dredge surveys, hazard clearance surveys, among others
  • Comprehensive experience (3 to 5 years) in data processing and integration/installation for the following sensors: MBES; SSS; MAG; SBP; GNSS; INS/IMU's; Single/Multi-Channel Seismic; Sound Velocity; ADCP. (List not exclusive)
  • Minimum 1-year practice with dimensional control surveys for Vessel Offset Surveys and land surveying techniques with RTK GNSS equipment, laser scanners and Total Stations
  • Minimum 1-year experience with tidal reduction methods for bathymetry and geophysical products including Total Propagated Uncertainty calculations
  • Professional certifications such as IHO CAT A/B, ACSM CH, PG, PGEO are a plus
