What to Expect

Autopilot is of critical importance to Tesla's mission. It is safer, makes driving more enjoyable, and will ultimately deliver on the promise of self-driving cars. As a member of Tesla's Autopilot Simulation team, you will be in a unique position to accelerate the pace at which Autopilot improves over time. The main ways in which the simulation team realizes this through building tools that enable Autopilot software developers to perform virtual test drives instead of real ones, testing all Autopilot software releases for regressive behavior and generating synthetic data sets for neural network training.
As a Simulation AI Engineer you will be utilizing the Autopilot simulator on Tesla's training cluster to evaluate full-self driving models, generate synthetic datasets and train the in-car neural networks. Data is a key ingredient in deep learning systems and Tesla relies on both fleet learning and simulation to provides unique additional advantages.

What You?ll Do

  • Setting up data pipelines to train and evaluate neural networks
  • Improving network robustness with/to simulation
  • Procedurally generating and curating dataset that are varied and as realistic possible
  • Running neural network training experiments and iterating on metrics
  • Your objective will be to expanding the scope of simulation processes to provide greater utility across closed-loop evaluation techniques, data generation and synthetic training


What You?ll Bring

  • Strong programming skills, especially Python
  • Strong engineering skills and proven track record of exceptional ability (i.e. you personally solved difficult problems that moved the needle on meaningful projects)
  • Experience with data science: analyzing large datasets using tools including Python scripting, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Pandas, Jupyter Notebooks, Bash scripting, Linux environment
  • Familiarity with deep learning fundamentals; experience training neural networks and analyzing results, especially with computer vision
  • Some experience with C , simulation techniques, 3D geometry and computer graphics
  • Passionate about accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy and pushing the state of the art in real world AI

    • Expected Compensation

      $104,000 - $360,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
