The team is seeking a Materials or Metallurgical Engineer to be an integral lead in metals associated with tooling design, processing and manufacturing for the GFTX Tool Shop.
- Provide direction to design and manufacturing engineers relative to optimal tooling materials, manufacturing processes and surface treatment processes.
- Identify needs not addressed by current tooling material solutions and lead development of new materials technologies for Engineering.
- Establish test plans when necessary to characterize application specific material properties.
- Conduct standard mechanical property and failure analysis.
- Establish repair methodologies and mitigation strategies for damaged tooling
- Develop, author and publish tooling material and process specifications.
- Materials Engineering degree. Metallurgical Engineering with surface treatments focus and advanced degrees are preferred.
- Fundamental knowledge of process-structure-property relationships in all types of steel alloys and heat treatment processes.
- Experience conducting and understanding standard mechanical property testing.
- Experience with materials laboratory failure analysis
- Practical experience with tooling alloy and manufacturing process selection specific to high pressure die casting, preferably H-13 steel
- 5 years' experience working with Tool Steel applications in high pressure die casting
