What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Optical Design Engineer, Camera Systems position at Tesla?
The Camera Systems team seeks an Optical Engineer with experience in lens design and analysis. The Camera Systems team is responsible for the entire lifecycle of cameras within our vehicles which includes sensor selection, lens development, camera module development, monitoring of manufacturing quality, camera calibration, image quality assessment, and camera quality tuning.
Lead design of lenses for computer vision and human vision applications.Develop lens specifications driven by translating internal team functional needs into practical engineering requirements.Work with lens vendors to realize lenses, develop specifications, and analyze lens builds.Create novel test methodologies to deliver next-generation lens performance.Make prototype systems and technology demonstration projects.
- BS in Optical Engineering or related fields and 4 years design experience or MS/PhD with 2 years design experience.
- Deep knowledge of optical design software: Zemax, Code-V, LightTools, etc.
- Sequential and non-sequential modeling experience.
- Hands-on problem solving skills.
- Experience with lens life cycle and specifications in production systems.
- Ability to communicate with broad engineering teams to determine specifications.
- Understanding of mechanical drawings for optical components.
- Python/MATLAB programming skills for data analysis.
