What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Optimization and Modeling Engineer position at Tesla?
The Systems Optimization Team is strategically positioned within Technology R&D to close the loop between product use in the real-world and the firmware/hardware design teams. The team uses in-house big-data tools, statistics, physics-based modeling, and optimization to drive continuous improvement of our existing products, and to define future products.
The Systems Optimization Team is looking for an experienced, determined, eager individual with strong breadth and depth of technical knowledge in the areas of optimization, operations research, and transportation network modeling. The Systems Optimization and Modeling Engineer will be expected to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, and own the technical roadmap, implementation details, and presentation of results for a large-scale future-looking transportation network model, and the of optimization of all aspects of the transportation network.
- Consistent collaboration and communication with cross functional teams
- Analysis of large-scale fleet data and statistics to inform models
- Contribute the discrete event model of future-looking transportation networks
- Development optimal hardware design, deployment, and control strategies for the transportation network model
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship for new hires and less experienced team members
- Technical communication of analysis results and tradeoffs to decision makers
- M.S. in Operations Research, Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, or other technical field
- 3 years of experience in industry, or national lab in a technical contributor role
- Strong background in linear and non-linear optimization and problem formulation
- Strong background in mechanical, electrical, and thermal dynamic system modeling
- High proficiency in Python, Matlab, SQL (additional experience C/C , Scala preferred)
