Job Summary: Small Claims Collections Specialist for Teton Auto Credit. Full time position, Pay: $18-$25/hr. plus bonuses (depends on experience) 

The Small Claims Collections Specialist plays a crucial role in the legal department by handling small claims cases on behalf of the organization. This role involves managing the entire small claims process, from case assessment and preparation to court representation and resolution, while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This role requires a combination of excellent communication skills, financial acumen, and negotiation abilities to ensure the timely and effective recovery of funds while maintaining positive customer relationships. This position also supports the Teton Auto Credit Collections department in a variety of tasks to help the day-to-day operations of the dealership. The Small Claims Collections Specialist maintains a professional relationship with a customers and upholds confidentiality regarding account information. 

Responsibilities:

  • Account Management: manage a portfolio of outstanding debts, review accounts and appropriate information to determine collection strategy 
  • Customer communication: contact customers to discuss outstanding debts and negotiate repayments, maintain a professional and empathetic approach while engaging with customers, aiming to find mutually agreeable solutions 
  • Compliance: ensuring there is compliance with all relevant laws and regulations governing debt collection, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) 
  • Court representation: represent the organization in small claims court proceedings, presenting cases before judges and  preparing evidence for court appearances
  • Negotiation and problem-solving: negotiate settlements or payment arrangements with customers
  • Reporting: generate regular reports on collection activities, account statuses, recovery rates for management review
  • Phones: answer all incoming calls and direct them with account manager
  • Data entry: input information on all new loans and maintain records throughout the term of the loan
  • Insurance: update and maintain insurance files, send letters and follow up with customers regarding expiring policies
  • Titles: update and post title information
  • Updates: ensure customer information is up to date
  • Payment: assist customers with payments
  • Filing: ensure paperwork is accurately filed
  • Scan: scan paperwork into system
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and reliable transportation
  • Previous customer service experience preferably in a collections, recovery, or a related role
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of debt collection laws and regulations, including the FDCPA
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in using computer software and databases for account management
  • Empathetic and customer-focused attitude 
  • Must be able to work in fast paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
