Job Overview:
Tetra Tech’s WTR Division located in Owings Mills, Maryland is searching for a qualified Biological Taxonomist/Aquatic Ecologist with experience in environmental and ecological assessment, monitoring design, and indicator development. The primary responsibilities of this position are to participate in all aspects of ecological assessments and help develop new and innovative technologies for data collection and analysis.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to participate in all aspects of ecological assessments and help develop new and innovative technologies for data collection and analysis.
Your Role :

Conduct/manage field monitoring and mapping (visual and photogrammetric)
-
Conduct/manage upland and aquatic environmental assessments and characterization
-
Support ecological restoration projects
-
Execute quantitative data quality assessments of field and laboratory datasets
-
Evaluate biological taxonomic data in the context of nomenclatural structure and history, including synonymies, priority, and higher classifications
-
Lead technical and non-technical teams in project and program development
-
Assess feasibility of new and developing technologies, e.g., metabarcoding
-
Produce technical documents
-
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
-
MS or PhD and 5 to 7 years of experience in a relevant discipline.

Experience in one or more of the following areas: taxonomic theory and practice, metabarcoding/eDNA techniques, indicator development, monitoring design and implementation.

Favorable consideration will be given to candidates with some understanding of biostatistics/data visualization, GIS, R-programming, field sampling, laboratory analysis, and fluvial geomorphology.

Strong writing and communication skills are a must, as is the ability to work in a team setting.

Although not required, we would also be interested in candidates with background and experience in water quality standards, restoration science, managing technical staff, and any aspect of the Clean Water Act or Coastal Zone Management Act.
