Your Role:

Tetra Tech is currently seeking a full-time Community Outreach Specialist for our Chicago, IL operations. Responsibilities will consist of: 

• Attending meetings, either in-person or virtually, preparing meeting summaries and tracking action items.
• Coordinating and arranging in-person or virtual public meetings, including preparing agendas, public notices, sending reminders and preparing presentation materials (Microsoft Power Point, posters boards, and handouts).
• Drafting and preparing fact sheets, newsletters, newspaper ads, community involvement plans.
• Coordinating material with technical teams, graphics staff and clients.
• Addressing community concerns in person, via phone, and e-mail.
• Assisting internal teams and clients with contentious, high-profile situations and recommending communications strategies.
• Document production.
• Serving as Section 508 coordinator and subject matter expert on all 508 issues.
• Providing guidance on technical issues involving Section 508 as it relates to accessible documents and electronic media.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of experience providing community outreach and 508 compliance support. The ideal candidate must also have/be:

• Complete, and up-to-date understanding of Section 508 compliance of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
• Experience reviewing and ensuring deliverables such as PDF and Microsoft Office documents are Section 508 compliant.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent time management skills, including ability to prioritize and manage multiple activities.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint.
• Experience with communication in various social networks.
• Public speaking.
• Self-motivated with a can-do attitude.
• Works well in a team environment.
• Works well in high stress situations.
• Works well with the public and various groups.
• Able to multitask and handle multiple projects at once.
• Comfortable presenting information in front of large groups (especially in high stress or contentious environments).
• Very responsive to client needs.

Education/Certification:

• B.A. or B.S. required, preferably in Communication, Education, Liberal Arts, Sociology, Psychology, or Business 

Physical Demands:

• Able to stand for longer periods of time (more than 2 hours)

Work Environment:

• Primary work environment is office, with remote hybrid work flexibility depending on project requirements.
• Occasional travel to client sites and other locations to attend community meetings and conduct community interviews in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota and possibly in other states.
• Occasional evening and weekend work to attend community meetings will be required.
