Job Description
Duties are diversified and involve a good understanding of Cost Accounting principles as well as the proper use of judgment in determining appropriate course of action. The cost accountant works under supervision, in accordance with established procedures and directly supports the site finance lead in compiling data required to complete all financial activities. The primary areas of impact are: Management Reporting, Planning & Forecasting, Inventory Fixed Asset management, Product Cost Development.
Job Responsibilities:
Monitor day to day reporting of transactions for the plant:
Review transactions related to creation of products (i.e. receipts, scrap, transfers, production batches, earned LOH, cost variances, obsolescence and cost of sales) to ensure sub ledger accuracy
Close work orders and analyze batch variances
Assist with yearly standard costing requirements for AOP. Ensure that material costs reflect the correct bill of material prices and yield efficiencies.
Work closely with Plant Controllers to analyze obsolescence by creating reports and attending monthly meetings discussing plant activities.
Responsible for accounting processes, reporting and business support relating to inventory and COGS
Complete the cost accounting monthly close, including the following activities:
Create and maintain schedules for at risk inventory and obsolescence inventory at the plant level on a monthly basis.
Reconcile perpetual inventory and reconcile other related balance sheet accounts
Create plant level schedules regarding SKU level details of required inventory and COGS information for the Plant Controllers.
Analyze finished goods receipts monthly for mass cost changes as well as LOH apportionment review.
Analyze purchase price variances monthly
Create the following reports for inter-company inventory: inventory turns, lower of cost or market, inter-company inventory profit elimination reports, inventory by location reports monthly.
Submit completed reconciliations using online tools monthly.
Create inventory and COGS flux analysis monthly.
Management Reporting / Financial Planning & Analysis:
Assists with financial reporting as well as planning and analysis for Elizabeth & Edison sites. Updates absorption tracker, absorption reports and assists with monthly submission requirements to corporate. Compiles KPIs and other relevant financial information.
Assists with financial reviews of business performance by synthesizing data into meaningful metrics.
Ability to communicate financial/accounting information to non-financial personnel.
Perform any backup duties for Site Controller as well as Ad hoc reporting as required
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Experience Preferred:
2 year’s accounting experience in a mid to large multi-national public company with a recent emphasis on Plant manufacturing
SAP preferred experience in a mid to large public company with an emphasis on plant manufacturing.
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, License, Certifications needed:
QAD & Hyperion preferred but not mandatory
Excel (2007 or higher) complex functions and formulas (pivot tables, lookup tables, graphs, importing and exporting).
