Job TitleAssistant Director, International Student Services Agency Texas A&M University - San Antonio Department Research & Health Sciences Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationSan Antonio, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description The Assistant Director of International Affairs is responsible for providing assistance to the international population at TAMU-SA, and the operations of the Director of OIA. Responsibilities: Assists with international student orientations and cultural programs that facilitate students' success and full integration into the campus community; and provides support for students in day-to-day campus life. Provides immigration advising, including educational outreach and orientation programs specifically tailored to the international population at while ensuring the institutional full compliance with all regulations that govern student visas. Serves as liaison with the Department of Homeland Security, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Department of State. Interprets federal regulations regarding enrollment and status of international students in F-1 and J-1 visa status, as well as SEVIS reporting. Supervises and trains staff; develops internal and institutional policies related to immigration and SEVIS operations. Develops and maintains contacts with and knowledge of pertinent Social Security Administration, Internal Revenue Service, and Department of Motor Vehicle operations as they pertain to non-resident students. Serves as Designated School Official (DSO) for the F-1 program and Responsible Officer (RO) for J-1 program. Advises students engaged in negotiations with governmental and non-governmental personnel on issues regarding their legal immigration status in the United States. International Student Admissions: Assists with International Admission and day-to-day activities, including foreign transcript evaluation process, determination of course equivalencies to include articulation and staff development. Assists with procedures used in the employment of foreign nationals; advises international students, scholars, and employees on employment sponsorships provided by the university; ensures institutional and federal government compliance based on federal regulations that govern these visas; and works closely with governing agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, Department of State (as Alternate Responsible Officer for J-1 visas) and Department of Labor (for H-1B's). Assists with employment-sponsored petitions for faculty and staff required by the Department of Homeland Security as required for foreign national work authorization. Coordinate the University's compliance with the Texas A&M University System international student health insurance criteria. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field. Six (6) years of related experience. Preferred Education and Experience: Master's degree in applicable field. Five (5) years of experience in international student/ study abroad/ related services. Three (3) years of student supervisory experience at a university. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of immigration laws and regulations. Knowledge of student information system. Experience interfacing with various government officials. Effective supervisory and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively. Excellent cross-cultural communication skills with experience in public speaking and delivering presentations. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
