Job Description Summary: The Associate Director of Research and Proposal Development, reporting to the Director of Research and Proposal Development, is a senior leadership position responsible for guiding and supporting the development of high-quality research proposals and fostering a culture of research excellence within the Texas A&M University System. The successful candidate will provide strategic oversight, mentorship, and expertise in proposal development, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and funding opportunities. Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership (20%): Collaborate with the Director of Research and Proposal Development to develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance research competitiveness and funding success. Provide guidance on identifying funding opportunities, cultivating collaborations, and building interdisciplinary research teams. Contribute to the development and execution of departmental goals and performance metrics. Proposal Development (40%): Provide expert guidance and support to faculty and researchers in the development of competitive research proposals. Facilitate proposal planning meetings, assist with project conceptualization, and coordinate proposal development timelines. Offer strategic advice on proposal content, including research design, methodology, budget development, and compliance requirements. Review and critique proposal drafts to ensure clarity, coherence, and alignment with funding agency guidelines. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather supporting documentation and resources for proposals. Mentorship and Training (30%): Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to faculty and staff engaged in research proposal development. Offer training workshops, seminars, and one-on-one consultations on best practices in proposal writing, funding agency requirements, and research administration processes. Foster a collaborative and supportive environment for research development within the department and across the university system. Other Duties as Assigned (10%): Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Research and Proposal Development. Education and Experience: - Master's degree in an applicable field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. - Eight years of experience in research proposal development, project management, or a related field. Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities: - Expertise in research design, proposal development, and project management. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and research administration software. - Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with others. Preferred Qualifications: - Prefer a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field. - Experience working in a higher education or research institution setting. - Demonstrated success in securing external research funding.
