Job TitleDean of the Honors College Agency Texas A&M University - Texarkana Department Office of Vice President for Academic Affairs Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationTexarkana, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description The inaugural Dean of the Honors College is the principal administrator and primary advocate for the college and reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean is responsible for articulating the vision of the college through successful leadership, university and professional activities. The Dean advocates and fosters excellence in teaching, scholarship, and program development. The Dean serves as the chief administrative and academic officer of the Honors College by providing strategic direction for the College and supports the University’s commitment to academic excellence, student success, and community leadership. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide strategic and visionary leadership for the College including the development of new programming. Serve as chief academic administrator of the College. Oversee College recruitment and retention efforts. Supervise all Honors College programs. Oversee College marketing and branding efforts. Manage budget, personnel, space and other resources with efficiency and accountability. Oversee class schedule development for each semester and/or term. Identify and pursue opportunities for College advancement through philanthropy and grantsmanship. Provide administrative and academic leadership required to develop and maintain quality academic programs. Promote excellence in scholarship, teaching, university service and community outreach with relevant programs, goals, and activities. Oversee the University Honors Council. Ensure coordination of the College with university programs, initiatives, and strategic goals. Foster an organizational culture that supports collegiality and professional development of students, faculty, and staff. Coordinate living/learning community in Bringle Lake Village. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Minimum Qualifications Earned doctorate in a discipline taught at the university. Academic credentials commensurate with appointment at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure. A record of successful administrative experience and leadership in a university setting comparable to department head or higher. Demonstrated evidence of knowledge and skills/abilities in administration including, but not limited to: budgeting and personnel management/supervision. Record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Minimum of eight (8) years teaching experience. Evidence of commitment to student-centered education. Experience with student recruitment. Experience with strategic planning. Experience with undergraduate and graduate-level curriculum development, program development, implementation, and evaluation. Experience teaching, advising, and working with Honors students. Record of involvement with relevant professional organizations. Preferred Qualifications Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Experience with fundraising and securing grants to support educational initiatives and student scholarships. Record of fostering and maintaining collegial relationships across and among all campus constituents. Understanding of educational technology trends in higher education. Commitment to research, performance, and experiential learning. Successful experience in grant writing and management. Other Requirements Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
