Job Summary:

The Dance Costume Shop Supervisor is responsible for supporting the School for Classical & Contemporary Dance by costuming SCCD productions, managing and maintaining the TCU Dance Costume Studio, and teaching/mentoring students enrolled in costume practical coursework. This role is a 40 hour/week position for 10 months of the year.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Prepares project to be accomplished by researching costumes and assembling materials, meeting with faculty, guest artists and students. Prepares costume designs for each work in concerts.

2. Achieves design concepts by selecting fabric types, choosing and mixing dye colors to achieve the determined results, applying painting techniques to shade garments; applying craft techniques to achieve costume shape; pattering, cutting, stitching and altering costumes.

3. Completes projects by coordinating production with faculty, staff and student workers.

4. Attends production meetings and collaborates with SCCDance Director and Production Manager on production timelines and deadlines for each performance season.

5. Controls inventory by dismantling, cleaning and storing costumes; planning and implementing storage.

6. Maintains records by preparing supply orders; documenting costs and materials for projects; submitting invoices, recording and managing budget.

7. Serves as instructional staff and supports student learning and costume skill-building by preparing and mentoring students enrolled in Costuming Practicum course.

8. Meets costume execution and completion schedule at all necessary deadlines.

9. Maintains costume rental program.

10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

* Bachelor's degree.
* 2 years' related experience in a university or professional environment.
* Dance-specific costume training and experience.

Preferred Education & Experience:

* 2 years of professional experience in designing and costuming and/or two years of experience in high-level conservatory dance productions.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

* None

Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:

* Specialized software experience for costume design and/or inventory processes.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

* Knowledge of dance costume design and construction in collaboration with faculty.
* Skill to work with flat patterning and/or draping, cutting, cleaning and dyeing.
* Skill in oral and written communication.
* Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines for each production.
* Ability to use tools required to accomplish the job.
* Ability to act as team leader.
* Ability to model professional best practices for students and positively represent SCCD in the dance community.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

* Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
* Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
* Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
* Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
* Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

* Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
* This role is an on campus, in-person position.
* There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
* The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
