Statistician III
The Statistician III performs advanced (senior-level) statistical, data analysis and research work under the direction of the Texas Civil Commitment Office.
Work involves coordinating the planning, development, analysis, and presentation of statistical data and reports. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions:
Conducts the collection, compilation, analysis, and interpretation of statistical data analysis for reporting purposes and management decision support.
Coordinates, plans, develops the design of statistical data and reports in consultation with users, subject matter experts, executive management, and/or outside entities. Conducts both long and short term studies.
Utilizes historical data and trend forecasting to make caseload projections to aid TCCO Executive Management in determining staffing, seating allocation and related needs and developing appropriation requests.
Plans, develops, and presents statistical data and reports. Requires the ability to conduct ad hoc analysis and prepare reports in short timeframes.
Develops tools to monitor contract performance and the progress in meeting projections and provides periodic updates to TCCO Executive Management on an ongoing basis.
Develops and maintains databases, data collection tools and forms to assist program staff with their monitoring and audit functions and to aid management staff in determining compliance with agency policy and procedure requirements. Includes the development of reporting functions in Excel based upon complex datasets and combining multiple datasets.
Develops plans, policies, and procedures for analyzing and interpreting statistical data.
Leads in the development of data collection methods and the selection of sample groups.
Explores emerging methods and technologies for data automation to save time and improve efficiency.
Provides consultation and technical assistance on research methods, data analysis and related topics. Prepares and provides presentations for professional organizations, governmental entities, and the public. Assists in formulating research objectives and programs.

Knowledge of statistics and mathematics, of statistical methods and formulas, of research techniques, and of the sources and availability of information.
Skill in gathering, running queries, analyzing and preparing reports to inform executive management decision-making.
Skill in presenting reports to a variety of audiences.
Skill in the use of a computer, applicable software, and statistical tools and databases.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills to include compiling multiple datasets, utilizing trend forecasting, creating models and reports, conditional formatting and developing forms.
Skill in conducting qualitative and quantitative research and in using statistical tools and programs.
Ability to work independently, set priorities and manage multiple research projects simultaneously.
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate statistical projects; to evaluate data; to ensure the development of measuring instruments with respect to reliability, relevance, and validity; and to supervise the work of others.
Ability to pay attention to detail and self-editing to consistently produce quality data and reports.
Critical thinking and advanced problem solving.

Initial Selection Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. Experience in data analysis and reporting. Experience and education may be substituted on a year for year basis.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; Required to travel 20% with possible overnight stays;
