Digital Coordinator

Texas Civil Rights Project
Austin, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 11/8/2021 CLOSED ON 1/5/2022

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Digital Coordinator position at Texas Civil Rights Project?

The Texas Civil Rights Project (TCRP) is a community lawyering organization, boldly serving the movement for equality and justice in and out of the courts, and seeking to advance a vision of a Texas in which all communities can thrive dignity and justice, and without fear. We know that to best serve the social justice movement in Texas, we must change hearts and minds along with formal changes to law and policy, and TCRP’s digital footprint is a major part of that effort.

To help sustain our engagement and grow our impact online, TCRP is seeking a Digital Coordinator. The Digital Coordinator will be responsible for executing TCRP’s digital strategy in order to advance our campaigns and projects across our three legal programs - Racial & Economic Justice (REJ), Criminal Injustice (CI), and Voting Rights (VR). This position will directly report to the Associate Director of Communications.

About the Role:
TCRP understands the importance of being Online. Over the past few years, TCRP has developed a significant digital audience that we are increasingly able to mobilize to take action on our goals - through petitions, event attendance, grassroots contributions, earned media, and more. The Digital Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that we are engaging and growing this audience through our various digital channels while also keeping a consistent voice and tone that is aligned with our messaging and values.

This position can be located in Alamo (Rio Grande Valley), Austin, Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio, TX (remote until at least June 2022).

As part of this work, the Digital Coordinator will:
  • Create concise, eye-catching, and innovative digital content for our social media platforms, emails, and blog, TCRP Mag, leaning into graphics, video, and other creative opportunities to elevate our messaging.
  • Generate opportunities to identify and engage supporters for our campaigns and drive measurable online actions through petitions, tweetstorms, letter-writing campaigns, etc.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop content that drives our campaigns forward and distills complex legal and policy into accessible formats for varying audiences: from migrants at the border to our regular financial supporters.
  • Research and stay up to date with the latest news on issues related to TCRP’s different legal programs and specific campaigns.
  • Understand and apply data analytics related to our email list and social channels to improve the effectiveness of our digital strategy.

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should have the following characteristics:
  • Commitment to addressing race, class, gender, and other equity issues as part of your work as well as the impact these structural issues have on our collective work environment.
  • Be very online. You have a deep understanding of how different social media platforms work, their typical audiences, and the tone best suited for each. You understand what makes for compelling content that moves people to action. Experience with social media management systems (i.e. Sprout Social) and SEO is a plus.
  • Excellent strategic thinker. Able to set goals and execute strategies and tactics to achieve them, including incorporating metrics and data analytics. You can adjust strategies and approaches when your first (or eighth) attempt isn't getting you the results you need.
  • Sharp writing skills. The role will require you to draft content for all of our digital channels, ranging from Instagram captions to 500-word blog posts, distilling complex ideas into digestible content for digital audiences.
  • Experience with graphics and video editing. Nothing fancy here - we won’t expect you to be creating tv-quality ads or detailed infographics - but you should be able to create graphics in Canva and create videos for use on our social platforms.
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment. The digital coordinator will have to work with various departments, partner organizations, and with the Associate Director of Communications in order to stay abreast of our various programs and align with our overall messaging strategy.
  • Knowledgeable about Digital Advertising. We don't expect you to have agency advertising experience, but we'd like for you to know enough about digital advertising tools, platforms, and key metrics to promote the organization's online presence.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $47,000 to $60,500, depending on experience.

In addition, TCRP offers excellent benefits, professional development opportunities, and a deep commitment to a meaningful work-life balance. We envision and work towards an organization that reflects the communities we serve and a culture of radical inclusion, continuous growth, and openness.

TCRP Benefits Include:
  • Employer-paid health insurance.
  • Four weeks paid vacation.
  • Eight weeks paid family leaves (with avenues to extend leave to 14 weeks in total).
  • $500 professional development budget annually.
  • Extensive holidays, including a two-week winter break.

This position is a part of the collective bargaining unit of the National Organization of Legal Service Workers and UAW Local 230 union, with the option to become a voting member.
