This position is a member of our Budget and Planning Division.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a part of the division’s Budget and Planning team, our Budget Analyst III will play a key role in achieving TCEQ’s mission. You would use your skills and experience to:

• Monitor and provide analysis of a portion of the agency’s budget on a routine basis to analyze expenditure patterns, determine trends and areas of concern.
• Complete projects to include planning, organizing, coordinating, and close out of activities.
• Compile and maintain budgetary data and/or reports for the use of management decisions
• Assist with the approval of personnel actions to ensure adhering guidelines, rules, and statutory requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major course work in business, public administration, or a related field, plus two years of full-time experience in a professional or technical capacity involving budget preparation or analysis.

OR

Three years of full-time experience in auditing, accounting, budget preparation, financial management, statistical analysis; or other responsible analytical or professional work that provided a knowledge of programs, budget procedures, budget execution, budgetary and financial relationships with workloads of organizational elements, organizational structure, and work processes of the organization.

OR

Registration as a Certified Public Accountant or a master's degree from an accredited college or university in public affairs, business administration, public administration, or a related field may be substituted for one year of the experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in the development of a state operating/organizational budget and/or the development of a state legislative appropriation request.
• Experience in developing budgetary reports.
• Training or experience in the use of Excel.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Budget Analyst III state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Budget Analyst III series.
