General description
Performs routine (journey-level) customer service work. Performs funds control functions as office cashier, disseminates information, responds to public inquiries for information, and maintains filing systems. This job is a position of public trust and requires a high degree of confidentiality in handling taxpayer records, information and payments. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

In this role you will:

  • Performs cashier-related tasks.
  • Receives cash and non-cash payments from taxpayers. Enters payment information into an automated system and prepares daily deposits of cash and non-cash payments. Provides assistance to visitors in a professional manner.
  • Handles, responds to and routes incoming telephone calls in a timely and accurate manner. Distributes messages to the appropriate individuals, adhering to the agency’s standards and protocol.
  • Receives, distributes, and date stamps incoming mail and maintains mail logs. Prepares outgoing mail and maintains postage balances.
  • Prepares and distributes correspondence and monthly reports. Reviews and updates files. Establishes and maintains a filing system. Performs timekeeping duties for the office. Verifies, reconciles, enters and distributes leave time information. Assists staff with travel arrangements and verifies travel vouchers prior to submission.
  • Conducts new hire orientation for employees regarding field office practices, agency policies and procedures.
  • Monitors inventory and orders supplies and forms. Maintains office equipment and makes repair requests. Maintains records retention schedule.
  • Performs other work related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED.
  • Two (2) years’ experience performing clerical office and/or administrative support work.
  • Two (2) years’ experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Two (2) years’ experience using a multi-line telephone.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year experience handling cash and non-cash transactions.
  • One (1) year experience preparing bank deposits for a business.

License / Certifications:
A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of employment. Applicants offered an interview must present the following documents at or before the interview: A state issued driving record for the last 36 months; valid Texas driver’s license (or state of residency driver’s license); and current proof of automobile insurance.
