GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Perform moderately complex (journey-level) custodial supervisory work over custodial and/or grounds keeping staff and vendors to accomplish the sanitation and cleaning of multiple state buildings grounds and facilities located throughout the region, Establish and maintain applicable written records of time/supplies and/or special projects. Plan, assign, and supervise the work of others within assigned geographical area. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Applicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervise and train employees and vendors performing a variety of custodial functions such as cleaning, minor maintenance, and detailed custodial work in offices, restrooms, and other building areas in multiple facilities.
2. Clean office furniture, walls, and windows; empties trash, and cleans offices entirely; clean drapes, upholstery, and cleans and repairs blinds and curtain rods and perform carpet maintenance and care.
3. Inspect, verify, and check custodial work.
4. Manage custodial work orders.
5. Inventory janitorial closets to ensure timely replenishment of supplies and coordinate the requisitions and distribution of supplies and equipment, and review record of supplies used.
6. Assist in moving furniture due to cleaning, office rearrangements, or special events.
7. Inspect buildings and grounds for cleanliness, completed work, and needed repairs.
8. Maintain records of time spent and supplies used for special projects.
9. Supervise or perform minor maintenance and repair work on custodial equipment.
10. Use cleaning agents in a safe, cautious, efficient and effective manner for sanitization of restroom facilities, plumbing fixtures, floors, showers, etc.
11. May perform limited yardwork including, but not limited to: trim shrubs, mow, edge, pull weeds, sweep sidewalks, pick up trash, clean courtyard, empty trash cans/ash trays near proximity of building.
12. May drive vehicles and haul materials, supplies, dirt, or furniture.
13. Plan, assign, and supervise the work of others.
14. Attend work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent.
Experience – Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in commercial cleaning. Supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
Substitution Note: Additional work experience of the type described or other related education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
Licensure and/or Certification - Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.
Regulatory knowledge – Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures. Knowledge of (a) cleaning techniques and procedures and of inventory control principles and methods (b) recycling procedures and the ability to distinguish the difference between recyclable materials and non-recyclable materials (c) custodial materials and chemicals, in the operation of vacuum cleaners, buffers, wet and dry pick-ups, automatic scrubbers, carpet shampooers, and related custodial equipment.
Supervisory/Managerial/Leadership skills – Knowledge of management and supervisory methods and principles, performance and productivity standards, and fiscal/budget management. Able to develop plans, policies, and procedures for efficient workflow and overall effectiveness. Must exhibit integrity; provide clear direction to subordinates; promote teamwork and be able to motivate others to accomplish goals.
Interpersonal Skills – Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.
Organizational and Prioritization Skills – Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.
Communication Skills – Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional letters/email to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.
Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail – Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.
Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) – Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Confidentiality and Protected Information – Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.
Safety – Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices.
Travel and/or Schedule - Availability for 25% travel, and after-hour and weekend work may be required.

DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group and state title will be transferred with no salary change.
A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary.
Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
