JOB SUMMARY: The Professional Scout of Baseball Operations identifies and evaluates players with the goal of providing recommendations for potential player acquisitions. This individual is expected to utilize all resources necessary to communicate opinions clearly and objectively on players to support the efforts of the Professional Scouting department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Identify and comprehensively evaluate every professional player in your assigned coverage to determine organization fit.
- Construct written and verbal player assessments in a timely manner.
- Be thoroughly prepared on all things related to the organizations covered (players, organizational philosophy, etc.)
- Input player information into the scout system.
- Maintain preferences lists for prospects in all organizations covered.
- Effectively organize a schedule and timing of assignments to responsibly traverse the country & conscientiously cover assigned organizations.
- Seek competitive advantage by cultivating diverse, trust networks throughout the industry to have the most accurate and reliable intel.
- All other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5 years of scouting experience with a Major League Baseball organization.
- Bachelor’s degree college or university preferred.
- Strong passion and demonstrated knowledge for the game of baseball.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff members.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including, but not limited to nights and weekends.
- Ability to travel 70% of the job.
