Position Description
The Department of History at Texas State University invites applications for a full-time lecturer position in Early American/U.S. History (pre-1877). The position carries a 4/4 teaching load and may be eligible for a new promotion-eligible faculty of instruction line set to be implemented in 2024-2025. The successful applicant will be expected to teach both halves of freshman survey courses in U.S. history. Candidates may also teach upper-level or graduate classes in their area of expertise as part of their teaching load when it fills the needs of the department.
This position is subject to the availability of funds.
Required Qualifications
A PhD or its equivalent in History or a related field is required by the time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in the classroom.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who help to fulfill other programmatic needs in the department, including the expertise to teach the first half of our sophomore-level survey of African American History, the first half of our sophomore-level survey in Mexican American History, and/or undergraduate courses in public history. Preference will also be given to candidates who have demonstrated excellence in the classroom and a commitment to student mentoring.
