About This Role
A Welding Instructor, under the direction of a Sr Tech Training Specialist, leads and directs the individual’s training and development related to aluminum welding within Marine and Land Systems (MLS) manufacturing processes and guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts the aluminum welding training of new hires and transfers based upon the needs of the department to which the individual will be assigned.
- Ensures confidentiality of program records/employee information and upholds the highest level of ethical standards.
- Adheres to MLS manufacturing requirements, quality standards and core competencies in the preparation and delivery of quality instruction.
- Maintains training curriculum while continually improving and developing the training program as necessary.
- Pace instruction and vary delivery to meet different learning styles.
- Provide appropriate and timely feedback to training participants.
- Maintains clean, effective, and professional learning environment.
- Maintains accurate records of attendance, progress of participants and reports the same in a timely manner to the Training Manager
- Completes weld certification documentation in coordination with Quality Control and delivers completed paperwork to weld engineer.
- Stays current with MLS welding technology, processes, and equipment.
- Be able to read, interpret, and follow blueprints and welding symbols as it pertains to MLS manufacturing.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by management.
- Works with supervision to monitor and track individuals not meeting MLS quality and production standards.
Education:
High school graduate or GED certificate. Completed formal weld training (i.e., Trade school/Tech college).
Position Requirements:
- Five (plus) years of related (MIG and TIG aluminum) experience.
- Formal instructor experience preferred.
- Familiarization with military specifications and standards.
- Ability to work in a Lean Manufacturing environment.
- The ability to read blueprints and sketches and complete basic shop mathematics.
- Must certify through the MLS training center and demonstrate skills based on the results of the welding test.
- Willingness and flexibility to work extended hours as needed to accomplish the task or work with little or no prior notification.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; must have demonstrated problem-solving skills.
- Must possess the ability to provide feedback in a helpful and constructive manner.
- Fully proficient and comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:

Postural: Must have the ability to move extremities and spine throughout a sufficient range of motion that will permit the employee to work in a variety of postures involving a range from floor to overhead level. Flexing and twisting of the trunk and other awkward postures are occasionally required.
Dexterity: Must have a good dexterity and frequently use one and two hands throughout the work period.
Cardiorespiratory Demand: Must have sufficient cardiorespiratory fitness to be able to perform medium work involving constant standing and walking, material handling and performing work in a hot, humid environment.
General Physical Activities: Include standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, body twisting, bending, sense of touch, manual dexterity, speaking clearly, seeing distant/reading, reaching, hearing, depth perception, color vision, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs and balancing.
Physical Demand Level - Medium: Must be able to perform medium physical labor as classified by the United States Department of Labor. Physical demands typically involve lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling not to exceed 60 lbs.
