The Opportunity
The Comptroller/Project Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting our company's financial operations. They will work closely with the Financial Management Partner (FMP) to manage day-to-day financial activities, monitor processes and controls, and ensure efficient and high-quality financial and management reporting and analysis. Additionally, they will collaborate directly with our Partners to meet the business needs. Our successful Comptroller will have insightful business acumen, the ability to execute nance and operational strategies and demonstrate a steadfast commitment to exceptional collaboration and client service within a dynamic business environment. Responsibilities

Overall Leadership Expectations

  • Demonstrate a deep knowledge of the rm and business landscape with the ability to leverage financial systems turning data into insights to support the partners and the financial team
  • Collaborate across the rm to cultivate a team culture of high performance with constant improvement.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for innovation, challenge the ‘status quo’, and lead implementation of new and enhanced techniques, tools, and systems.
  • Reinforce best practices and processes that promote compliance with internal controls, safeguarding of assets, and fraud prevention.

Financial Management / Accounting / Planning & Analysis

  • Manage all general accounting, treasury/cash management, payroll, tax, and financial systems
  • Provide data for annual operating plan, budgets, ongoing forecasts, and cash ow projections
  • Deliver annual data reports on the Company’s performance versus industry KPIs and benchmarks
  • Prepare data for financial reports and monitor plan variances
  • Ensure adequate cash flow for efficient business operations
  • Manage insurance activities - monitor industry trends, update renewal information, provide certificates of insurance for projects, review contracts, and interface with insurance providers
  • Collaborate on financials, bank accounts, and taxes for 3rd party investment entity
  • Record vendor bills and credit expenses to proper accounts and projects
  • Provide data for climate-Neutral and other certifications and surveys
  • Provide annual accrual financials to the valuation accountant
  • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, lings, remittances, tax oversight, and planning
  • Review year-end projections to provide data for tax return preparation
  • Prepare and le sales tax calculations for appropriate jurisdictions (NY, Utah, and Canada

Client Relations / Project Management

  • Review and build client proposals and contracts into projects in financial software to bill clients, track Project Manager profit, and allow Company payments
  • Collaborate with Project Managers on client billing and monitor project profitability
  • Manage WIPs in Ajera, clean up concluded WIPS quarterly, and close approved projects
  • Manage accounts receivable and communicate with clients on their overdue invoices
  • Verify client invoicing for 3rd party furnishings, work with purchasers to record vendor invoices in Ajera, generate invoices to clients, receive payments, and pay vendors

Human Resources / Payroll & Benefits

  • Audit timesheets and payroll bi-weekly assuring accurate data and information and oversee legal payroll requirements for the Department of Labor, NYS, and the IRS
  • Evaluate and implement annual salary and payroll updates
  • Maintain employee information in the database

Administration / Systems

  • Foster productive business relationships with external providers: accountants, payroll services, tax authorities, insurance, etc.
  • 401k plan administration instruction: plan assets, employer contributions, annual reporting, fidelity bond, requirements, participant notices, loans, and plan education
  • Collaborate on migrations and implement changes in ERP systems
  • Manage lease adherence and updates for real estate requirements
  • Develop and maintain procedures for, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing and collections, and payroll. Maintain SOP documentation

 

Background & Qualifications

Requirements Education & Experience

  • 10 years’ progressive financial leadership experience including people management experience gained within the design/engineering/construction industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance, complemented by a professional accounting designation or equivalent advanced degree
  • Superior technical nance, accounting skills, and business acumen: strong knowledge of internal controls and processes, audit, financial reporting, controllership, and financial systems
  • Prior ERP and project management systems implementation experience
  • Thorough knowledge of payroll and legal requirements, compliance, and benefits administration

Compensation

Total compensation range between $125,000 - $150,000 will consist of a base salary plus bonus and benefits.
