What are the responsibilities and job description for the Care Services Manager position at The ALS Association?
SUMMARY: To provide information and support to people with ALS and their families in order for them to make informed/appropriate decisions regarding their health care and equipment/technology needs, therefore allowing people with ALS to maintain their independence for as long as possible by using adaptive/assistive equipment and technology. To provide that same information and support to health care professionals who are caring for people with ALS.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Resource and Support
- Provide consultation to people with ALS and their families concerning equipment needs, making living situations more accessible, and resource options.
- Provide consultation to other medical professionals, e.g., Occupational Therapists, concerning equipment needs, making living situations more accessible, and resource options for people with ALS and their families.
- Acquire, organize and maintain pertinent data to increase resource options for people with ALS and their families.
- Chapter Program Services
- Advise and refer people with ALS and their families to chapter services/programs as needed
- Represent the Chapter at two local ALS clinics while providing information and consultation to clinic staff, people with ALS, and their families.
- Provide consultation to care services team members on OT and Speech related equipment needs.
- Assist as needed as a speaker or helper with the various support groups throughout the state. Also, to serve as part of the chapter program services team with the strategic development and facilitation of support groups to meet the needs of people with ALS, their families, and caregivers.
- Educate people with ALS and their families regarding equipment and technologies for people living with ALS.
- Engage Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP), Physical Therapists (PT), and Occupational Therapists (OT) on pertinent topics related to ALS. Engage with them in educational opportunities.
- Represent the Chapter at professional education conferences.
- General
- Represent the Chapter by attending and assisting at various chapter events (local and out-state) that involve persons with ALS and their families.
- Keep current with Occupational Therapy state licensure and National board registration.
- Convey an image that reflects favorably on The ALS Association.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university or; equivalent years of related experience and/or training or; an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Master's Degree (MA) or equivalent, or four to ten years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred.
- Certificates, Licenses and registrations required: Occupational Therapist License.
- Computer skills required: Microsoft Office; Video Conferencing Software.
