Collectively, these agencies provide advocacy and a range of person-centered supports and services in 19 Western, Central & Southern Tier counties in Upstate New York to more than 9,000 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism. Join The Arc Team and earn up to $18 per hour at some locations in Elmira or Watkins Glen with our new additional $2 per hour shift differential.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Direct Support Professionals (DSP’s) attend to the daily need of the Individuals served. DSPs perform a wide variety of and often repetitive tasks for and with individuals to teach, encourage and guide them in the development of daily living skills and habits so they may achieve their greatest level of independence.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED or ability to pass the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Test.
Must be able to clear all NYS and OPWDD required background checks.
Valid/Clean driver’s license preferred.

- Supervise individuals at all times to ensure safety and avoid elopement.
- Aid and/or monitor Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, showering, toileting, grooming, dressing etc.
- Converse with individuals to reinforce positive behaviors and to promote social interaction.
- Prepare food for prescribed diets and assist/monitor individuals while eating.
- Reposition individuals in beds or chairs as needed.
- Aid in ambulation and/or transfers with individuals throughout the day.
- Aid in transporting individuals to and from daily programs, includes driving.
- Escort and aid individuals within community settings
- Respond to disruptive individuals to prevent injury to themselves and others.
- Observe and document individuals’ behaviors, feeding patterns, toiled training etc., to facilitate assessment and development of treatment goals.
- Address route tine healthcare needs of individuals under supervision of medical personnel.
- Assist/perform household activities such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping etc.
- Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the individuals.
- Work in a team atmosphere assist in all emergency situations and routine fire drills as required.
- Communicates questions, concerns or issues to Team Leader, Manager or Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Team Leader, Manager or Supervisor
