Broadcast Writer/Reporter

Office of Radio and Television (ORTV) – Prospect, CT

The Office of Radio and Television seeks to fill a part-time Broadcast Writer/Reporter position with an individual strongly committed to telling uplifting stories of faith and the power of goodness and caring.

ORTV, located in Prospect, CT, is an affiliate of the Archdiocese of Hartford. ORTV produces a “Good News” television magazine program, Crossroads Magazine, which is aired on two Connecticut broadcast channels and carried statewide on cable systems.

ORTV also operates a non-commercial FM radio station, WJMJ at 88.9 MHz. In addition, ORTV also produces multimedia presentations for agencies of the Archdiocese of Hartford, as well as materials for distribution on social media.

Job duties will include, but not be limited to; coordinating with broadcast journalists, videographers and editors to ensure stories are competently executed at a high level of quality and are entertaining and informative. The ideal candidate must write well and should have news-style production experience.

Successful candidates will manage time efficiently, pay strict attention to detail, perform duties with accuracy, and be knowledgeable in technical requirements of audio production, videography and editing. Candidates should have a knowledge of and appreciation for the Roman Catholic faith and be comfortable working with clergy on religious matters.

Qualified candidates must possess a BA Degree in a related field and one to three years of professional experience. Exceptional technical knowledge, good interpersonal skills and the ability to multi-task are required.

Candidates must also be willing to submit to a background check and have the ability to work flexible hours with occasional evening, weekend and holiday assignments.
