About this Role
The BLPS Group, Inc. is hiring! The BLPS Group, Inc. is seeking a dynamic, creative and experienced Facilitator to lead up to 15 students through an exciting after school program. This role works one-on-one, in person with motivated students from Valparaiso and the Northwest Indiana region to learn the fundamentals of coding and other STEM-related activities. This position will work closely with our team and partners to create a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment that promotes learning and growth. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children ages 6-12.
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree preferred
- 2 years of experience working with children in a classroom setting.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members and administrators.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a healthy work ethic.
- Must be able to pass criminal background check.
Role Responsibilities:
- Act as primary facilitator for weekly Coding for Kids program
- Plan, organize, lead, and facilitate all activities for students in your classroom.
- Prepare for weekly meetings by reviewing curriculum and adapting as needed based on students’ progress and interests
- Lead fun, friendly icebreaker activities to kick-off sessions and promote team building and social-emotional growth
- Help students create accounts, navigate, and submit their work related to the coding for kids game and related curriculum.
- Provide constructive feedback to students in order to foster an inclusive learning environment.
- Ensure that all classroom activities are age appropriate and meet the needs of all students.
- Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and concerns.
- Assist in the development of curriculum based lesson plans for each subject area as assigned.
- Manage attendance data and report on youth participation

Additional Qualifications:
- Experience in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) would be a plus, but not necessary (or mandatory)
- Knowledge of teaching best practices and educational standards is a plus
- Passion for empowering youth through new technologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
Compensation / Hours
This is a contract position beginning in August, at $18-20/hour, based on relevant experience. There is a possibility of ongoing work to be scheduled jointly after successful project completion if the program continues or grows.
