Performing Arts Technical Coordinator (Seattle, WA)

Part-Time (80 % FTE - 32 hours per week), Salary/Non-Exempt

Academic Year (10-month) Work Schedule

The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Performing Arts Department as the Performing Arts Technical Coordinator supporting the Music and Drama departments of our K through 12th grade community. We are seeking a candidate who will support the school’s mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that displays and proves an understanding of cultural fluency. The Performing Arts Technical Coordinator will support the Music and Drama departments of our K-12th grade students with the technical aspects of their performances. They will help students find their artistic voice, while giving them practical skills to implement their designs, modeling clear communication and collaboration, and supporting the organization and logistics of our performances and performance spaces.

This position reports to Performing Arts Department Chair and works closely with the school’s Performing Arts Department across K-12th grades, as well as staff, faculty, community members and outside vendors.

While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to execute on the following key responsibilities and tasks:

Collaborate closely with all performing arts faculty, K-12th grade
Supervise and mentor Upper School tech students from 3:30-5:30 during play rehearsals in the scenic shop and costume shop
Co-Teach ‘Intro to Theater Tech’ with the Upper School Drama Teacher (2-3 times a week)
Run occasional weekend Build Days for both Middle School and High School Theater Productions
Provide support during tech weeks for Middle and Upper School Plays
Mentor Upper School Student Designers in the creation and implementation of their designs
Manage the Benaroya Theater space: coordinate transitions between performance and meeting needs, manage a calendar of the space
Assist the twice yearly Upper School Music performance entitled, “The Venue” coordinating set elements, set-up, and lighting
Manage tech elements in the space to ensure that the tools are functioning, organized, and well-maintained
Coordinate set-up and take-down of risers in Benaroya Theater
Organize audience logistics, marketing for performances by K-12th grade students, to include reservations, ticketing and seating
Mentor the Upper School student marketing team
Manage tech elements and scenic design for Middle School productions
Function as a liaison between Facilities and the Performing Arts Department to streamline set-up procedures and equipment maintenance
Assist with Lower School performances, to include set-up needs
Help to reimagine the Mag Gym performance space infrastructure
Attend Department meetings and All-Staff Meetings/Trainings
Assist with performing arts tech aspects for Lower, Middle and Upper School Graduations and Baccalaureate

Experience and Professional Competencies:
Degree in Technical Theater or related field preferred, or equivalent experience preferred
Extensive experience with scenic design required, along with at least two of the following fields: costume design, sound design, lighting design, projections, and stage management
Experience teaching and working with young people preferred
Demonstrated commitment to creating welcoming spaces for students of all backgrounds required

Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Apps and Windows and Mac OS, as well as an interest in learning new software

Additional Requirements:
Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings
