Summer Program’s Middle School Adventure and Leadership Teacher (Mazama, WA)
Work Schedule: July 8, 2024 through July 12, 2024 and/or July 15, 2024 through July 19, 2024

The Summer Program Middle School Adventure and Leadership Teacher reports to the Summer Program Manager and works closely with students and families, as well as the Director of Programs, Methow Campus & Semester School. This position will be responsible for teaching a Middle School Adventure and Leadership course Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm beginning on either July 8, 2024 or July 15, 2024 and ending on either July 12, 2024 or July 19, 2024
Camp Description: This adventure and leadership camp will provide students with an opportunity to engage with a variety of outdoor activities while honing their leadership and teambuilding skills. Students will explore the landscape of the Methow Valley in a variety of ways whether it be on foot, on bikes, or on the water. They will learn outdoor skills such as building shelters, outdoor cooking, and navigation, and they will have the opportunity to practice their leadership skills by holding different leadership roles over the course of the week. While the days will be action-packed and full of adventure, students will also have time to appreciate their surroundings and reflect on their experiences through creative projects such as watercolor, sculpture building, and nature journaling.
While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:
· Create and sustain a positive camp culture and group dynamic, based on the mission and values of the school
· Ability to effectively manage up to 20 students with a co-instructor.
· Enhance curriculum and student engagement with relevant and accessible lessons on leadership, outdoor experiences, and age-appropriate teambuilding activities
· Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
· Utilize developmentally appropriate teaching methods, materials, and expectations for students in grades six through eight
· Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and within the curriculum
· Develop a responsive, student-centered classroom community that fosters engagement, inquiry, risk-taking, and confidence while being a comfortable environment for students
· Adapt instructional methods and differentiate instruction as needed, in collaboration with summer program staff.
· Partner with parents and communicate effectively about transportation, safety, course expectations, challenges and successes
· Conscientiously complete other duties as assigned
Experience and Professional Competencies:
· Experience working with middle school aged students is preferred
Successful candidates will:
· Possess a philosophy of education that aligns with the school’s mission and values
· Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with others, including administrators, colleagues, staff and parents/guardians in order to maintain constructive and professional relationships
· Complete work in a timely and thorough manner and be conscientious about assignments and deadlines
· Bring personal experience and enthusiasm about bringing youth into the outdoors.
· Be patient and positive and find joy in the journey of promoting a lifelong love of learning
· Be able to complete all background screening forms in a timely manner and meet the school’s related background screening standards
· Meet the school’s COVID vaccination requirements. The Bush School is committed to providing a safe environment and campus for students, employees and visitors alike. Additional Requirements:
· Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
· Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings
Compensation/Benefit Information for this position:
· This temporary, term-limited position is a stipend position that is paid a total of $1,200 weekly for up to two weeks.
