Job Summary

Under general direction of the Director of the DRC, this position is responsible for supporting DRC Housing Accommodations.  This includes collaborating with students and their supporters, housing staff, and Access Specialists.  This position will also provide support to students through disability management counseling sessions to address barriers to accommodations and academic success.   

 

Department Summary

The Disability Resource Center (DRC) implements Federal and State laws through providing support services and academic accommodations to students with disabilities.  Services include, but are not limited to: disability management, alternative testing, alternative media, accessible technology, transportation, document conversion, note-taking, information and referrals.  Students served include those with learning, psychological, physical and sensory disabilities.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; reason logically; draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports.
  • Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of disability-related laws and provisions of services to students with disabilities (e.g., Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, ADA, IDEA 2004 and CSU 1111).
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems. Including a special sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented students and students with disabilities.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job‑related field. One year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level.
  • Equivalent amounts of graduate level job‑related education may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the required knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, DEGREES, CREDENTIALS: Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

 

Salary:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $48,792 - $53,000 Per Year

Classification Range: $48,792 - $69,024 Per Year

Supplemental Information

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

This position may be "Designated" under California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. This would require the filing of a Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis and the completion of training within 6 months of assuming office and every 2 years thereafter.
