San Francisco State University, School of Theatre & Dance offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Dance beginning August 7, 2024. We seek a colleague who is a dance artist or artist-scholar whose teaching and research interests include Dance Practice and Dance Studies informed by LatinX or Africanist dance traditions. The primary assignments will include studio-based courses in dance technique, dance making, as well as dance theory. We are especially interested in qualified candidates with a demonstrated commitment -- through their research, teaching, and service – to re-envisioning and innovating a dance curriculum in response to the diversity of our student population and the excellence of our academic community.
We are seeking applicants with experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups. This is part of a cohort hire focused on Black and Latinx/e student success. We are looking for teacher/scholars who have an established commitment to teaching, research and/or service in and with the Black and Latinx/e community. The School of Theatre & Dance offers comprehensive programs of practical and theoretical coursework for undergraduate and graduate students. Our faculty are composed of scholars and artists who are committed to training future theatre and dance artists and introducing students to a diversity of performance traditions and approaches to theatre and dance research. Our school currently serves 200 undergraduate students enrolled across our three degree programs (B.A. Dance, B.A. Theatre Arts, M.A. Theatre Arts) as well as the larger SF State student community enrolled in the Dance minor, the Theatre Arts minor, as well as General Education courses. The National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) accredits the theatre degree within the School of Theatre & Dance. Responsibilities
The position’s primary responsibilities require developing and teaching courses in dance technique, mentoring and advising students, developing an active ongoing scholarship program or program of creative work in one’s area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments. The primary responsibilities include teaching core requirements in the dance B.A., contributing new courses as appropriate to one’s specialty, advising and mentoring students, choreographing for School sponsored productions, and serving on School committees.

The anticipated Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is:
$88,500 to $90,500 annually (12 monthly payments per academic year).
The anticipated hiring range is $7,375 to $7,542 per month.
Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work (https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/california_equal_pay_act.htm).
Professional development funds, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
