The Kinesiology and Public Health Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking to hire a full-time lecturer for the 2024-25 academic year, with the possibility of reappointment to an additional year. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated hiring range for a finalist with a master's degree is $58,104 - $68,100 annually. The anticipated hiring range for a finalist with a doctorate degree is $74,700 - $85,500 annually. 

Primary duties and responsibilities are to teach undergraduate general education healthy living, multicultural health and/or women’s health, and upper division drugs & society as well as obesity prevention & treatment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion, Health Education or closely related field is required.
  • All requirements for the Master’s Degree must be completed before September 16, 2024.
  • Must have the ability to teach the following undergraduate courses: general education healthy living; multicultural health; and/or women’s health; and courses in the public health major.
  • Must have the ability to teach undergraduate courses in three or more of the following areas: introduction to community & public health, introduction to epidemiology; applied epidemiology labs; drugs and society; first aid & CPR, injury prevention; global health; health behavior theory; health promotion program planning and evaluation labs; media & technology in health promotion and lab; obesity prevention & treatment; physical activity & public health; research methods labs; stress, health & chronic disease; worksite health promotion; and physical activity & wellness courses (KINE 100-176)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate in Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion, Health Education or closely related field.
  • Certified Health Education Specialists or CHES/MCHES eligible.
  • University teaching experience using face to face, hybrid and online delivery
  • Experience supervising undergraduate community-based learning and/or research.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Kinesiology and Public Health Department is a major academic unit within the College of Science and Mathematics offering a BS in Kinesiology and a BS in Public Health.  There are approximately 550 undergraduate students, 15 full time faculty, 4 full time lecturers, 25 part time faculty, and 5 support staff. The mission of the Kinesiology and Public Health (KPH) Department is to promote physical activity and health for all through excellence in teaching, research and service.  The Center for Health Research (CHR) is a University Research Center housed within the Department of Kinesiology and Public Health that includes several ongoing multi-million-dollar NIH-funded research grants. Projects include several long-term prospective human research studies involving hundreds of community participants, dozens of local community contracts and partners, and several national and international partners. There are approximately 30 staff positions funded by external research grants including researchers, faculty investigators, research staff, a community liaison, database managers, phlebotomists, a technician, student research fellows, medical consultants and a translator.  In addition, there are 20-30 undergraduate and graduate students conducting independent research in any given quarter.
