Anticipated Hiring Range

$6,667 - $7,084 Per Month ($80,004.00 - $85,008.00 Annually)

Position Summary

The employee, reporting to the Director of Web and Mobile Applications, serves as a business applications analyst and software developer for business applications maintained by the Web and Mobile Applications unit in support of student housing, dining, and conference services.

The housing and business applications analyst performs systems analysis, configuration, development, programming, documentation and support for business applications including the resident and property management platform, campus commerce platform, and custom integrations into other SF State applications.

Position Information

Provide analysis and development of university resident and property management platform, campus commerce platform, and integrations into other campus systems  

  • Engage with campus constituents to identify and document software/system purpose, work flow issues, output needs, and to determine overall functional and technical system requirements and specifications
  • Analyze requirements and, in collaboration with information technology peers, design appropriate solutions
  • Work with project leadership, constituents, and application programmers to estimate and document project resource requirements
  • Develop alternative solutions and conduct feasibility studies
  • Evaluate the procurement of third party software and troubleshoot new software installations
  • Design, test, document, and implement SQL queries on Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL, or similar
  • Maintain custom application integration solutions using scalable and maintainable approaches in collaboration with other technical experts
  • Write software and scripts to meet user specifications
  • Work with user community to understand data access and integration needs
  • Develop test plans and work with users to test and debug programs
  • Construct flow charts, data flow diagrams, and similar documentation
  • Knowledge of system security requirements
  • Ability to use project management techniques and tools to track and report on project status and mitigate identified risks

Provide end-user support and reporting for all supported applications and integrations 

  • Assist operations in problem determination and resolution
  • Triage, troubleshoot, and resolve application issues, understanding and supporting processes and applications across multiple business areas
  • Review and manage incoming support tickets in a timely manner
  • Support multi-vendor and multi-protocol middleware technologies for databases and applications
  • Write documentation to provide user support for new or modified programs and production/operation procedures

Minimum Qualifications

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in applications programming and systems analysis and related programming support functions is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Analyst/Programmer, depending on the position assignment, may include working knowledge of a specific industry standard applications programming language and knowledge of standard systems analysis techniques.

The career level is broad and includes intermediate through senior level positions. Incumbents at this level work relatively independently and possess the experience to be fully proficient in performing most or all of the work assignments defined for their position. Typically, incumbents have acquired the requisite skills and knowledge through a combination of education, training, and progressive work experience to be able to demonstrate competence in independently applying technical judgment to standard and nonstandard applications and systems, solving a wide range of problems and developing practicable and thorough solutions, and using effective communication and listening skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, information technology, or related field; equivalent experience can be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. A minimum of 3 years of experience in the following: a database structured query language, a high-level programming language, project management, requirements analysis, user support.  

Knowledge
Understanding of business and technical workflows; basic networking and firewall functions.

Skills/Abilities

  • Work independently with consultation with team lead as required; perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with professional presentation skills 
  • Strong computer science fundamentals; able to create scalable and maintainable solutions
  • Provide technical end-user support to users with varying levels of expertise and knowledge
  • Recognize and resolve application related problems through effective troubleshooting and collaboration with other technical experts
  • Experience collecting user requirements, performing systems analysis, designing an appropriate solution, and estimating time and resources required to complete
  • Experience with relational database analysis and design and the use of structured query languages like Oracle SQL
  • Experience designing and building application integrations with scripting languages like PowerShell, Batch, Visual Basic, Java, Unix shell
  • Experience with StarRez or OneSite resident and property management systems
  • Experience with Agile methodology
  • Experience with higher education institutions

The employee maybe required to sit in an open office environment with other project team members. This is an exempt position and is not subject or eligible for overtime or compensatory time off. The employee may be required to work outside of their regular work schedule to perform maintenance, deployment, or other support activities. The employee will be required to be available by cell phone and may be called after work hours to respond to critical service outages.
