APPOINTMENTS FROM THE PART-TIME POOL ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MUST BE AVAILABLE ON VERY SHORT NOTICE. 

Part-Time Lecturer positions are available in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Cal Poly, during the 2023-24 academic year. Part-time appointments are made from a pool of approved applicants, as determined by need, and contingent on funding. Responsibilities include teaching biomedical engineering courses.  

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2022, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $4,530-$6,056
Lecturer B: $5,405-$11,994
Lecturer C: $6,190-$13,172
Lecturer D: $7,794-$13,797

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors Degree in engineering or related area is required. Candidates must have demonstrated teaching ability as well as evidence of ongoing professional development and competence. Candidates with extensive industry experience are encouraged to apply.

Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree, university teaching and appropriate industrial experience preferred. Applicants from industry or universities interested in visiting positions are encouraged to apply.  

Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.  Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Cal Poly's Biomedical Engineering Department offers B.S. degrees in Biomedical Engineering and General Engineering. It also offers the Master of Engineering Degree in several specializations, to include Biomedical Engineering; and the Master of Biomedical Engineering, as well as a specialization in Stem Cell Research. Cal Poly emphasizes "learn by doing", which involves extensive lab work and projects in support of theoretical knowledge.
