The Carlisle Group has been retained to search for a Head of Claims. Our preferred client is an A.M. Best “A” rated, $1.4B award-winning, nationally recognized insurance company. They have over 1,300 employees and are headquartered in northern New York. They provide personal and commercial property and casualty insurance products in 17 states through a network of 2,200 independent agents. Our client continues to grow while maintaining a strong foundation and reputation of providing “best in class” service for their policyholders and independent agency partners since 1914. This is a remote work location opportunity.
Head of Claims
Essential Functions:
- Ensure consistently strong day to day execution in management of all UNIG’s core claims segments and highest adherence to claims practices procedures, quality standards and regulatory compliance. Core claims segments include Auto, Property, Workers' Compensation, and General Liability.
- Work closely with claims line of business Directors to ensure consistency in management and adoption of practices, procedures and performance metrics, and execution of corporate business plans.
- Maintain responsibility for claim results including such elements as reserve adequacy, loss costs, loss expenses, payment accuracy, claim service delivery, timely investigation, evaluation, and disposition of claims. Develop and implement reviews to ensure that claims technical standards are being met and improvement opportunities are recognized and communicated.
- Follow established reserve control procedures to ensure that reserves are current and reflect accurate loss and loss expense exposure of claims in accordance with Utica National’s reserving philosophy.
- Responsible for maintaining adequate and appropriate staffing levels that deliver department quality, financial and service goals. Effectively manage our claims staff to train, retain and develop our best claims talent. Develop recruitment and professional development strategies to stay ahead of increases in market demand for claims talent.
- Develop, maintain, and operationalize claims large account service offering. Manage and be accountable for resolving customer issues which may include identifying claims team members to provide the requisite level of subject matter knowledge or support to customers or internal departments.
- Coordinate with Marketing, Sales & Underwriting, and oversee Large Account Claims Service Coordinator to support and deliver a best in industry Large Account Claim Service offering.
- Prepare and analyze financial, quality, and operational reports relating to regional performance. Develop and adopt action plans responding to performance deficiencies or improvement opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable statutes and regulations relating to administration of claims.
- Responsible for analyzing and communicating changes in law, regulation, and custom to ensure consistent quality claim handling.
- Abide by the “Responsibilities Common to all Executives and Supervisors.”
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Conforms with all corporate policies and procedures.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required; JD or master’s level course work in business preferred; Insurance coursework/designations helpful.
Experience:
Minimum experience of 15 years in mid-level or senior level management claims positions with multiline experience, including liability or workers’ compensation required. Required 5 years in a senior claims’ leadership role.
