The Children's Center Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides no cost services to qualifying families who reside in the community. Comprehensive services are provided to pregnant women and their partners and children from birth to 5. Child development, health and family services are provided through a variety of program options designed to meet the needs of low-income and at-risk families.

Being a Preschool Teacher with Us
We are looking for a vibrant preschool teacher to educate, care for, and inspire the young minds at our preschool. Using a variety of teaching methods, including artistic expression, educational play, and storytelling, you will teach children to identify shapes, colors, numbers, and letters, while providing them with foundational life skills and preparing them for the next stage of formal education.

- 1-3 years of experience working with young children in a classroom setting
- Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Passion for teaching young children
- Creativity, organization and classroom management
- Positive mindset toward child learning and social-emotional development
- Patient, compassionate attitude, with a friendly, energetic disposition
Preschool Teacher Minimum Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred; Early Childhood Career Studies Certificate and high school diploma/GED required
- Experience working with young children in a classroom setting
- Familiar with Virginia Licensing regulations
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to home visits
- Ability to obtain required certifications, such as First Aid/CPR, within 10 days of hire
- Work conditions: The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. Prolonged periods of standing, bending, sitting, squatting, kneeling. May be exposed to excessive, continuous, loud noise.
- Physical exertion requirements: Work is defined as Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work.
- Ability and flexibility to work at any school in Suffolk
- Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate for preschool-aged children
- Desire and ability to work with children with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational and developmental goals
- Familiarity with multiple infant and toddler learning areas
- Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines
- Working familiarity with assistive technologies; internet and email systems; and word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software
- Working knowledge of various school and video equipment
