The City of Overland Park has volunteer opportunities at the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. .
Summary: The Arboretum depends on its volunteers to help us be one of the most beautiful destinations in metropolitan Kansas City. There are a variety of options available to potential volunteers.
Volunteer opportunities include:
Gardening, weeding, planting, and general maintenance
Greeting guests
Prairie restoration
Educating guests, guiding tours, and hosting field trips
Arboretum outreach at external events
Helping with seasonal activities and educational events
Assisting with weddings and rental events
Instruction, maintenance & implementation of special interests topics, including photography, birding, geocaching, art and more.
Volunteers do not need prior knowledge, only a desire to learn. Volunteer opportunities are not automatic. If you are selected as a volunteer, you will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator as positions become available.
Long Term Volunteer Requirements:
Be 18 years of age or older
Have a positive attitude
Adhere to Arboretum and City policies and procedures
Appreciate nature and commit to conserving our natural world
Enjoy meeting new people and providing excellent customer service to guests
Commit to volunteering 40 hours annually
No City residency requirement. Must successfully pass a background check and attend a volunteer orientation.
Due to the physical and safety requirements of all volunteer programs, the Arboretum reserves the right to suggest other volunteer opportunities that may better align with the volunteer’s abilities. .
Normal Work Hours: Dependent on the needs of the Arboretum.
