Nature of Work:

The Program Officer will spark meaningful and measurable progress by developing, managing, and leading equity-centered investment initiatives. They will invest a portfolio of philanthropic capital by identifying opportunities in underserved communities to support high-impact initiatives with the potential for sustainable social or economic change which outlives the initial investment.

Duties will require researching and recommending impactful grant and non-repayable investments; creating strong, deep, and trusting relationships with investees, potential investees, and peer funders; and deepening the alignment and practice of equitable grantmaking both internally and externally.

This Program Officer will be responsible for managing the Fund for Louisville’s Well-Being Action Area which concentrates on access to fair and just opportunities for people to be healthy and reach their full potential. It may include investments in reducing violence, food access, stable housing, affordable health care, and childcare.

The Fund for Louisville coupled with several unrestricted field of interest funds fuel the Foundation’s discretionary activities which include program and operating grants to nonprofits, organizational capacity development, awareness initiatives and policy advocacy.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage the annual strategic deployment, growth, and evaluation of a six-figure investment portfolio (grants and other non-repayable funding) associated with the Foundations Fund for Louisville which includes cultivating diverse investee relationships; assessing investee organizations; reviewing investee reports; directing selection committees, and analyzing investment social and financial impacts.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with investees and peer funders aimed at realizing mutually beneficial goals and shared learning.
  • Organize and facilitate Foundation sponsored meetings of organizations representing a wide range of backgrounds and identities, local neighborhoods, organizational structures, and approaches to inform decisions regarding the use of Foundation resources.
  • Invite, review, and respond to inquiries and proposals for Foundation resources. Offer professional advice and field expertise to applicants, researchers, and others in the field.
  • Engage in a process of continuous learning that requires the collection and communication of data for the refinement, scaling, and sustainability of Foundation initiatives which may appear as written analysis of deployed Foundation resources; reports examining issues affecting the assigned portfolio; drafting requests for proposals (RFPs), budgets, and project work plans; authoring articles for internal and external publication; and providing input to improve others’ work products.

  • Maintain, document, and keep organized records of information gathered from potential investees.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with recipients of Foundation resources.
  • Recommend calculated risks the Foundation can take to address complex social issues with a focus on long-term benefits and innovation.
  • Establish specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals.
  • Collaborate and network internally and externally for effective comprehensive solutions.

Education and Experience:

  • Demonstrated track record managing a multitude of complex tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Capacity to be highly confidential, discreet, tactful, and act with integrity.
  • Broad experience with the details and challenges of nonprofit management and complex cross-sector initiatives.
  • Aligned and committed to the mission and values of the Foundation.
  • Welcomes organizational growth and change.

Physical Requirements:

This position may require the ability to lift objects of at least 20 pounds in weight. Job duties require approximately 75% sitting/typing and 25% moving around. Physical requirements will vary depending upon the specific duties to be accomplished. In addition, it is a requirement of this position that the successful candidate be able to maintain a physical presence in the Louisville headquarters offices regularly and consistently and for the full regular work week. This position requires access to and ability to operate a vehicle for work-related travel. Attendance may be required at special events during normal working hours or outside the normal work week.

Compensation:

The position is an administrative, full-time, exempt staff assignment and will be eligible to participate in the Foundation’s Employee Health and Benefits Plan as set forth in the Foundation’s personnel policies. Compensation will be set in accordance with the Foundation’s approved compensation policy.
