JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Career Development, the Career Coordinator engages in career counseling for all students, manages the centralized office email account, creates weekly opportunities announcements for the three professional schools at The Cooper Union (Art, Architecture, and Engineering), updates existing materials and creates new materials relevant to career development, helps to oversee the Professional Development Fund.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide career development and job search counseling to students at The Cooper Union.
  • Assist students in developing resumes and other relevant materials.
  • Support students in developing the competencies required to become informed about career options and opportunities related to their personal and professional objectives.
  • Manages the general career development email account.
  • Creates weekly opportunities announcements for all academic programs.
  • Disseminate employment and internship opportunities to appropriate faculty, organizations, and students.
  • Updates preexisting materials and aids in creating new materials.
  • Helps with report on the Professional Development Fund, including tracking, and writing synopsis emails for team members.
  • Assist other staff members in the planning and coordination of career outreach and programs such as job fairs, career programs, and employer panels.
  • Collaborate on the development and enhancement of the Center for Career Development web sites and technologies; integrate technology into daily operations, help manage programs and presentations.
  • Assist with the coordination of the mentorship program or future related programs.
  • Participate at Cooper Union events such as orientation, parent’s day, open houses, admitted students’ day, etc. as needed.
  • Show initiative, enthusiasm, and dedication to helping the Center for Career Development and the Office of Student Affairs carry out their goals and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of this position consistent with this job description and prevailing collective bargaining agreements.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

  • A background and experience in career development and a strong desire to work with students are essential.
  • Must have direct experience in working in administrative settings.
  • Must be able and willing to occasionally work flexible hours, including occasional evening or weekend during specified events.
  • Needs a demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with a diverse population to enhance and further the mission of The Cooper Union.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team oriented individual.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and problem-solving skills to complete work, take responsibility and make decisions based on solid analysis and interpretation.
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with employees, faculty, and students in a collegial, cooperative, and respectful manner.
  • Proficiency is required in the use of relevant technology.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree and an interest in higher education and student development.
  • At least 1-3 years of career counseling experience or comparable experience.
  • Experience with the engineering, architecture, and the arts industries is a plus.
