The Council on Recovery is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to keep our community healthy, productive and safe by providing services and information to all who may be adversely affected by alcohol, drugs, and related issues.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Regional Community Liaison works directly under the supervision of the Division Director of Prevention Services. Is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Region 6 Prevention Resources Center, which serves a 13 county area.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct prevention services and activities within the region
• Plan and implement media awareness activities focusing on the state’s priorities of preventing adolescent abuse of alcohol (underage drinking), tobacco and nicotine products, marijuana and other cannabinoids use, and prescription drug misuse
• Promotes, facilitates, and hosts Region 6 trainings for substance abuse prevention in collaboration with Texas Prevention Training Services and the Southwest Prevention Center and other providers based on community needs
• Attend community stakeholder meetings, network and collaborate with community coalitions and community resources to obtain and distribute data regarding adolescent drug, alcohol, and tobacco use that will support PRC goals
• Promote community efforts and generate support to enhance data collections in the region (i.e. promote participation in Texas School Survey, university/college surveys, and local and regional community prevention surveys)
• Communicate with other PRC’s and HHSC – funded providers to foster collaboration and resource sharing
• Establish and maintain working linkages through CA/MOU’s with community and social service agencies to encourage networking and coordination to aid in collecting and identifying resources for regional data collection
• Provides supervision and oversight to the Tobacco Prevention Coordinator
• Ensure and facilitates Synar Minors and Tobacco prevention strategies in the region
• Maintains and updates PRC website with current local, regional, statewide, and national training information, regional needs assessment and related substance abuse prevention information and data
• Maintain and updates PRC social media accounts with HHSC and SAMSHA provided media campaigns
• Maintain a toll-free number for communication with regional partners and data collection participants
• Participate in monthly or quarterly calls with HHSC
• Ensure surveys are culturally, linguistically, and educationally appropriate
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements
EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS
• BS/BA in Behavioral Sciences required
• Strong knowledge of substance abuse prevention field and community resources
• Strong working knowledge of word processing programs and desktop publishing software
• Reliable transportation
• Valid and current automobile insurance required for all vehicles driven for work purposes
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED• Have experience and knowledge of working with media (TV, radio, social)
• Able to develop relationships with service sites and potential collaborators within and outside The Council
• Passion for public speaking and training
• Link and coordinate referral services
• Provide information on substance abuse education and intervention services within the region
• Perform special assignments and projects
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
• A minimum of 3 years of working the substance use or related field
• Must be able to represent The Council professionally during all community events and/or contacts/meetings
• Effective communication skills both verbal and written
• Experience in using Microsoft Office
• Experience in coordinating presentation
