Position Summary:
The Hard Skills Trainer for the Washington, DC Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)Workforce Development program will be responsible for coordinating, scheduling and conducting trainings that result in industry recognized credentials for referred Customers (TANF recipients referred to Fedcap by the District of Columbia's Department of Human Services).
Two separate programs comprise our Workforce Development contract with the District of Columbia's Department of Human Services (DHS).
Job Placement's primary focus is customer placement into unsubsidized employment; and Education and Occupational Training's primary focus is to enhance a customer's skill level through education and training in order to be referred to a job placement program after receiving credentials. Additional details provided below:
Education and Occupational Training (EOT): Case management supports, barrier removal, development and monitoring of training programs, possible on-site training with industry-recognized credentials. Outreach and non-compliance support services.
Job Placement (JP): Case management supports, barrier removal, job readiness training, job development services, services to assist with career advancement, retention services. Outreach and noncompliance support services. WHO WE WANT Mission-driven self-starters willing to take the lead on projects; comfortable with startup programs; confident and able to work independently; happy to pitch in on a range of tasks and wear many hats; outstanding communicator; great client customer service skills are a must; and must have the drive and desire to achieve and exceed outcome(s).
Essential Job Functions:
- Able to and/or licensed to teach hard skills credentialed classes in high demand sectors, such as Hospitality (American Hotel and Lodging education Institute), Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Microsoft Office, IC3 (Digital Literacy) , National Work Readiness Credential, National Retail Federation Certification, etc.
- Mastery of small group facilitation techniques and the ability to present content in each of the three learning modes
- Ability to command the attention and respect of learners and help apply all lessons learned to where they are today and where they see themselves in the future
- Must establish and present approved lesson plans with clear objectives and outcomes, set daily laying out the expectations of the day including handouts, textbooks, workbooks, web-based resources,
- Must extrapolate training to career opportunities and career ladders and consistently encouraging of life-long learning
- Develop peer to peer relationships within workshops over subject matter
- Is punctual and dependable in making sessions and preparing for them in advance
- Gives assignments to learners and tracks performance and progress with position of interest and critical competency form completion
- Maintains a clear written calendar of weekly classes as well as a monthly rotational schedule.
- Organizes hiring fairs and presentations from hiring managers for learners on a quarterly basis at minimum.
- Conduct non-compliance outreach via phone, letter and up to home visits.
- Track and submit attendance towards the achievement of WPR goals
- Build relationships with potential employers and other community-based organizations (CBO) through multiple in-person contacts.
- Assist with rapid job searching, resume writing and teaching interview skills.
- Complete weekly and monthly performance indicators and records data.
- Assist in compiling data for reports, including but not limited to customer timesheets and placement and retention reports.
- Act as a liaison between employer, CBOs, and participant, as needed.
- Stress urgency and ownership, guiding Customers through a learn by doing process during their job readiness/job search activities.
- Document activities, participation, compliance, and employment progress in the Electronic Case Management (ECM) systems.
- Ensure office is open during contractual office hours.
- Monitor environmental checklist and submit work orders for equipment, IT and supplies as needs arise.
- Participate in learning collaboratives through both regional and online conferences.
- Provides reception coverage, answers phone, accepts documentation via email.
