The Fifth Avenue Hotel is seeking a Host to join the opening team for the 153 room hotel. Carved out of an oasis of comfort and calm in the middle of bustling Manhattan, mindfully blending personal service, superlative design, distinctive cuisine, compelling art, and engaging cultural experiences. Every aspect of The Fifth Avenue Hotel is tailored to delight, engage and foster curiosity.
As a Host, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional customer service and creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for guests arriving at The Fifth. You will be responsible for assisting guests out of their transportation, opening the front door, luggage, offering personalized recommendations and information, and ensuring a smooth and memorable arrival and departure experience.
Your Focus
- Flaneur: Create an environment where our guests can experience The Fifth Avenue Hotel in the way of a flaneur, where every detail is curated, tells a story and leaves a lasting impression
- Five Star Experience: Ensure a five star (and beyond) luxury level of service and hospitality is delivered to all who come to experience The Fifth.
- Arrival and Departure: Greet guests upon their arrival with a warm and friendly welcome, assisting guests out of their transportation, liaising with valet operations, opening doors, and assisting with luggage. Offer a personalized welcome and guide visitors into the hotel. Highlight the uniqueness of The Fifth’s art collection.
- Arrival and Departure luggage: Assist guests with their luggage, ensuring it is safely and efficiently transported to their rooms upon arrival and retrieved upon departure. Handle luggage storage requests and maintain accurate records of stored items. Offer a personal orientation of the room and hotel facilities, ensuring they feel at ease and informed of how you will be available to serve them during their stay.
- Transportation Coordination: Arrange transportation for guests, including taxis, house car, limousines, and airport transfers. Provide accurate directions and recommendations for local attractions and facilitate transportation requests to enhance guest convenience.
- Entrance Appearance: Monitor and maintain the entrance area, ensuring it remains clean, presentable, and welcoming. Open doors for guests and offer assistance with wheelchairs, strollers, or other mobility aids as needed.
- Operations: Maintain an organized and efficient working area, including luggage carts, storage areas, and equipment. Ensure all necessary supplies and resources are available and in good working condition.
- Guest Opportunities: Handle guest concerns, or special requests promptly and effectively. Take ownership of resolving issues and finding suitable solutions, collaborating with other hotel departments as necessary. Ensure all concerns from guests are tracked appropriately.
- Guest Assistance: Offer personalized assistance to guests, including providing information on hotel facilities, dining options, entertainment, and local attractions. Respond to inquiries, resolve concerns, and offer recommendations to enhance the guest experience.
- Security and Safety: Monitor the hotel’s public areas to ensure the safety and well-being of guests and staff. Respond to emergencies or incidents that may occur by involving the security team where necessary.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
- Previous experience in a luxury hotel role is preferred
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize effectively.
Work Environment and Context
- Work schedule varies and will include working on holidays, weekends and the overnight shift.
- Requires standing for extended periods, walking, pushing, lifting up to 75 pounds, bending and reaching.
