What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at The Gateway Family YMCA, Elizabeth Branch?
25Camp starts on July 3rd and ends on August 25th, however hours are available in May & June in school-age program prior to camp starting. Mandatory Trainings will be held in June.
- Must be available 5 days a week during program hours.
- Available minimum of 8 weeks out of the summer program (July 3rd-August 30th)
- Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program, by providing appropriate supervision at all times.
- Plan and implement meaningful activities, lesson plans, and special events that are age-appropriate and exciting based in the areas of arts, character development, creative expression, community service, physical fitness, and/or nutrition
- Maintain accurate program documentation (attendance, sign in/out forms, behavior/incident/accident reports, as appropriate).
- Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events at the Y (family nights) as needed.
- Attend all staff meetings and complete all necessary camp trainings.
- Maintain a positive working relationship and communication with all co-workers, supervisors and parents of campers.
- Follow all YMCA Policies and Procedures.
Job Requirements
- Experience working with school-age children in an organized group setting. Experience with a day camp program, a plus.
- Must have car and valid driver's license to get to and from designated site.
- Comfortable working with large groups of students in grades K-8.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with other staff members to ensure the program is running at a high quality.
- Friendly personality and comfortable communicating with parents of students.
