Job Summary:
The Night/Weekend Editor will help drive afternoon and evening and weekend news production and operations for print, digital and other platforms.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, edit and coordinate content with a focus on breaking news/courts/cops coverage.
- Manage breaking news to get copy up fast, fair and accurate.
- Lead, coach and mentor to include development of story ideas and mastery of beat coverage.
- Work with newsroom team to drive readership through a combination of original reporting and a smart curation of breaking and trending news.
- Assist reporters in reaching wider audiences by framing stories smartly and driving audience centered news coverage in our newsroom.
- Collaborate with other editors to assure growth of digital audiences and to increase loyalty and improve engagement.
- Excel at line editing a variety of raw copy on deadline, with emphasis on error-free copy that conforms to AP Style on deadline.
- Maintain strong working relationships with other newsroom editors, digital team, the copy desk, page designers, photographers and video journalists.
- Contribute ideas and effort toward newsroom wide initiatives and projects.
- Multi-task and ensure consistent page flow during a work shift.
- Develop and maintain good relations with the local community.

Minimum Education & Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least 3 years’ editing experience in a newsroom.

- Demonstrated experience leading production of breaking, enterprise, beat-driven and other news.
- Must be quick to see potential story ideas in trending topics or spinning off from news of the moment.
- Strong news judgment and experience directing daily news coverage.
- Desire to be in the middle of everything happening in the newsroom and is a great coach and collaborator.
- Must be self-starter with strong time management skills.
- Reputation for accuracy and the ability to multi-task.
- Strong knowledge of AP style.
- Strong editing skills.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
