What are the responsibilities and job description for the GL Accountant position at The Guidance Center?
POSITION SUMMARY
The General Ledger Accountant contributes to the overall success of The Guidance Center by effectively and accurately maintaining the general ledger for the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate for use by the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Program Directors, and Program Managers, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
2. Process monthly, year-end, and correcting adjusting journal entries to the General Ledger.
3. Process monthly, quarterly, and annual accruals and post to the General Ledger.
4. Process monthly AR posting and analysis
5. Reconcile. and oversee reconciliation of all General Ledger Accounts including all company bank accounts.
6. Prepare, review, and finalize the close of each periodic financial process.
7. Regularly and systematically report inconsistencies, successes, missed deadlines, etc. to Direct supervisor.
8. Complete annual reports and renewal requests for tax exemption, corporation status, cost reports, etc. for direct supervisor to review and then submit.
9. Assist with internal and external financial audits and process recommended adjusting entries.
10. Periodically review Trial Balance. Communicate to direct supervisor regarding major account variances or inconsistencies.
11. Complete assigned projects outlined by direct supervisor to reconcile, analyze, review and audit the fiscal, clinical, and business office procedures and systems.
12. Provide backup support to other accounting personnel as assigned.
13. Coordinate and recommend updates to the Chart of Accounts with direct supervisor.
14. Ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures
15. Assist with preparation of supporting information for the annual audit and the external auditors as necessary
16. Assists supervisor with management and maintenance of financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash
17. Review and validate monthly results
18. Maintain fixed asset schedule and post monthly depreciation including proper recording of all acquisitions and disposals.
19. Tracking of leases and collection of rent for Company owned housing facilities
20. Insure general ledger postings from payroll activities are accurate and posted correctly to the General Ledger
21. Assist supervisor with preparation of budget and other reportings as requested.
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Required:
Minimum 2 years general ledger accounting
Bachelor's degree in accounting or two years of college courses in accounting and four years accounting experience
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
Ability to obtain Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
At least 21 years of age or older.
Valid AZ driver's license.
Preferred:
Prior not-for-profit accounting experience
Experience with Microsoft Navision Accounting Software
Proficiency in the use of computer programs for:
Accounting
Word processing
Spreadsheets
E-mail

This person works primarily in an office environment with some travel to a satellite office, and off-site meetings.
