Our Claims Litigation team is currently seeking a Legal Bill Reviewer in our Worcester, MA or Itasca, IL location. This is a full time, exempt role.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position supports Hanover’s electronic billing and legal bill review program, as well as other initiatives to manage the cost of outside legal defense. Responsible for reviewing legal billing on complex cases, including major case and specialty lines of business. Identifies opportunities and works with Claims leaders and adjusters to improve billing outcomes and results.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
  • Apply legal expertise to review legal billings submitted by retained law firms for reasonableness and compliance with company guidelines.
  • Review related claim notes, adjuster file materials, supporting pleadings and other documentation as needed.
  • Report results of bill reviews to law firms and claims personnel.
  • Engage in regular communication with claims personnel, offering opinions and recommendations regarding case status, budgets, plans of action and the impact to legal billing practices.
  • Negotiate and resolve billing issues and conflicts with senior claims personnel and outside attorneys.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
  • Juris Doctorate degree required
  • 7-10 years of litigation-related experience and working knowledge of civil procedure required
  • Familiarity with litigation claims process
  • Prior legal bill review experience, exposure to electronic billing systems and familiarity with legal billing preferred
  • A decision-maker who by assessing the scope of an issue provides options leading to its closure. Determines appropriate actions based on the situation
  • High-level negotiation skills
  • Demonstrate effective communication, relationship building, and decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Creates an environment that encourages, values the opinions of others, and promotes sharing of information and ideas
