SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing home delivered meals and related health and wellness services to homebound clients in order to improve their quality of life, maintain or improve their health, and to improve capacity to remain in homes and communities. Some office administrative support work may be required. Flexible per diem schedule; typically 10-15 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver meals and groceries to homebound seniors, disabled adults, and other community agencies.
- Deliver holiday and birthday gifts for clients.
- Provide wellness visits and short conversations (if client and/or caregiver desires).
- Inform the Meals On Wheels (MOW) office of changes to meal delivery instructions.
- Inform MOW office of any potential safety hazards on routes.
- Assure compliance of food safety regulations; maintain proper food temperature and deliver meals in a timely manner.
- Maintain a set of updated route sheets.
- Confirm orders and collect service agreements when needed.
- Provide assistance in maximizing the meal preparation and pack-out system at meal pickup site as needed. Includes but is not limited to counting, sorting, packing meals, and organizing route sheets.
- Observe any daily changes in client health and/or condition, living environment and surroundings, eating status, etc. Report immediately to MOW office.
- Attend driver meetings.
- Adhere to HIPAA procedures/regulations.
- Comply with all traffic laws and drive safely.
- Complete required training on time.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- Experience with customer service.
- Delivery experience preferred.
- Valid California driver license.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY:
- Ability to read, write, follow written and oral instructions, and to converse easily with clients.
- Ability to comprehend and follow driving instructions and/or read road maps.
- Ability to do simple arithmetic and to make change.
- Automobile available for daily work with current automobile insurance as required by the State of California.
- Ability to handle emergency situations with clients.
- Ability to deliver meals within the allotted time.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Flexible per diem schedule; typically 10-15 hours per week.
- Demonstrated ability to meet physical requirements of position:
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Ability to bend and reach.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs.
- May be exposed to inclement weather.
- Employment background screening required.
- No major moving violations or suspended license in the past three years.
- Acceptable driving record
