The Bluefield Arts and Revitalization Corporation (BARC) is a 501 (c)(3) in Bluefield, West Virginia. BARC’s mission is to use the arts to create opportunities for entertainment, education, and employment in downtown Bluefield. BARC owns and operates the historic Granada Theater, a recently restored and reopened theater in the city, and manages the Paine Gallery, an exhibit space in Bluefield’s Old City Hall. BARC fulfils its mission by providing entertainment through movies, music, and live theater at the Granada, organizing exhibits from local and regional artists and artisans at the Paine Gallery, and offering multiple arts education programs in collaboration with Mercer County public schools
Job Description:
BARC is seeking an experienced business manager with strong administrative, bookkeeping, and organizational skills to play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our historic theater. The position will report to BARC’s House Manager and Programming Director and work closely with BARC’s assistant manager and customer service staff to ensure the efficient functioning of our organization. The role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual with organizational and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
OPERATIONS
Purchasing and inventory control for concessions, alcohol, supplies
Facility and equipment maintenance and repair
Emergency and safety plans, including responsibility for BARC’s safety committee
Assist with the preparation and distribution of marketing materials, including press releases
ACCOUNTING
Accounts payable and accounts receivable
Deposits – weekly and after major events
Payroll – every two weeks
Box Office Reports to studios, payments of rights fees
Tracking of revenue and expenses, including compiling accounting data in a usable format for use by BARC’s accountant
Maintain and organize physical and digital filing systems, including contracts, inventory, and other accounting documentation
INSURANCE
Renewal and payment for property, liability, worker’s compensation
LICENSES
Renewal and payment for city and state business licenses, alcohol licenses, county food service license
TAXES
Payment of payroll, sales and use taxes, B & O tax, equipment and leasehold tax
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education is strongly preferred.
Three to five years of experience in a similar position in business, government, or non-profit setting. Bookkeeping experience with a knowledge of basic accounting principles.
Experience within the arts or entertainment industry is a plus but not required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and social media is required.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, artists, vendors, and patrons.
