JOB SUMMARY:

The Hunger Coalition is seeking a passionate Advocacy Coordinator (AC) to assist the Community
Organizing Supervisor (COS) in building a grassroots, mission-focused advocacy program in Blaine
County. This position requires stellar interpersonal skills, deep knowledge and understanding on
how systems of oppression intersect with the lived experiences of our community members. The
AC works toward empowering community members to be in the driver’s seat of policy change.
In the first year, the AC will work directly under the COS to identify specific issues brought forth
from the impacted community. The team will identify top priorities and develop a comprehensive
strategy that works toward dismantling systemic structures that directly impact the various
communities experiencing food insecurity in Blaine County. It is imperative that this is a
community-led and community-driven effort. To do this, the COS will build a team culture which
will develop deep trust through curiosity, empathy and solidarity.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
● Is bilingual in Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate clearly in both languages
● Has basic knowledge of community organizing or systems change work
● Works well with persons of varied sexual orientation, gender identity, racial, ethnic, cultural,
socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are differently-abled
● Has knowledge and/or experience with Idaho policy and legislation
● Is highly organized and can work well independently or in a group
● Is comfortable with public speaking and able to engage community in active participation during
discussions
● Has excellent written and verbal communication skills with a wide variety of audiences
● Has computer proficiency with Google Suite, Word, Excel and virtual meeting facilitation


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Support COS to conduct a community assessment on the root causes of hunger in Blaine County
● Engage the impacted community to build short term and long term strategies to address the
identified root causes of hunger and systems of oppression
● Build strong partnerships with local and statewide organizations doing work on issues such as
safe paths to citizenship, education equity, affordable housing, livable wage, domestic violence,
affordable healthcare, structural racism, immigrant rights, etc.
● Co-facilitate leadership development trainings for rising community organizers
● Build meaningful, thoughtful, transformative relationships with impacted community members,
partners, and community advocates in the field
● Grow strong partnerships with Promotoras to learn from impacted communities and get
resources to them in culturally relevant ways
● Attend weekly community meals to provide opportunities for participants to engage in advocacy
initiatives and to build authentic relationships with the impacted community
● Work with co-directors to further develop board of directors competency in the justice, equity,
diversity and inclusion (JEDI) work.
● Provide monthly updates to the board of directors highlighting opportunities for them to be
engaged in advocacy initiatives in the community.
● Co-create a teen advocacy program with the Bloom Youth Project staff and community partners
who work directly with teens in Blaine County
● Work closely with the Social Change Communications Supervisor to develop a root cause
communication plan, launch campaigns, and build a digital organizing network

SALARY, HOURS & BENEFITS:
Full-time, 40 hours per week position. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9am-5pm, Thursdays
9am-7pm, and Fridays 9am-3pm. Occasional evening workshops and weekend community event
attendance will be required. Salary range $50,000-$56,000. Benefits include flexible, fun working
