TITLE
Manager, State Income Taxes
LOCATION
Orrville, Ohio (Close proximity to Cleveland/Akron)
REPORTS TO
Senior Manager, State Tax Operations
POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager, State Income Taxes will have broad responsibilities over the Company’s state and local income tax activities, including compliance, audit support, research, planning, and income tax accounting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the state and local income tax compliance process for tax returns, estimated payments, extensions, apportionment calculations, etc. Responsibilities will include review of returns prepared by staff and/or third parties and may also include preparation of some returns.
- Assist in the state and local income tax accounting process to ensure accurate tax amounts are reported in the Company’s financial statements and related disclosures. Effectively execute internal controls over financial reporting of state and local taxes. Support quarterly and year-end tax provision processes.
- Support strategic domestic tax projects, such as acquisitions, divestitures, system implementations and internal restructurings.
- Mentor and coach staff and other tax department personnel.
- Prepare, review and reconcile state tax accruals and related journal entries.
- Manage income and franchise tax inquiries and notices.
- Support state and local income tax audits.
- Manage third-party relationships with consultants and service providers.
- Monitor legislative and judicial proceedings for relevant state and local income and franchise tax law changes.
- Conduct ad hoc tax research and prepare technical memorandums to support tax positions.
- Seek to identify and implement tax savings opportunities.
- Seek to identify and implement process and technology improvement initiatives.
- Work with cross-functional teams to further understand business processes and to educate others on tax related items.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA or Master’s degree preferred
Experience
- At least 5 years of experience with a CPA firm or public company with emphasis on state and local income tax matters required
- Experience with OneSource or other comparable tax software required
- Working knowledge of federal corporate income tax matters preferred
- Experience with state and local income tax accounting and/or controversy matters preferred
- Experience with Oracle and/or Hyperion a plus
